Self-oil Massage: Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic practice of self-massage using warm herbal oils. It is designed to nourish the skin, improve circulation, and balance the body's doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). The process typically involves applying oil in circles over the joints and with longer, sweeping strokes along the long bones, often followed by a warm shower or bath to detoxify by opening the channels of the body.

Regular abhyanga supports detoxification, calms the nervous system, and promotes restful sleep. It can also relieve muscular tension and enhance joint flexibility. The type of oil used is selected based on individual constitution and seasonal needs—for example, sesame oil for grounding Vata imbalance or coconut oil for cooling Pitta conditions.

Incorporating abhyanga into your daily routine can foster a deeper connection between mind and body, supporting overall wellness and vitality. Practiced mindfully, it serves as both a physical and meditative ritual that aligns with Ayurvedic principles of treating the root cause rather than symptoms alone.
